Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians And Gays was founded in 1972 with the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son, PFLAG is the nation's largest family and ally organization. PFLAG is a national non-profit, uniting people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ). PFLAG is committed to advancing equality and full societal affirmation of LGBT people through its threefold mission of support, education, and advocacy.
PFLAG has over 350 chapters and supporters crossing multiple generations of families in major urban centers, small cities and rural areas in all 50 states. PFLAG Phoenix Native American Chapter, also known as “Native PFLAG”, is the only chapter in the country that is focused on supporting Native American communities and emphasizes traditional Native American LGBTQ teachings.
Our Vision. We, the parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, celebrate diversity and envision a society that embraces everyone, including those of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Only with respect, dignity and equality for all will we reach our full potential as human beings, individually and collectively. PFLAG welcomes the participation and support of all who share in, and hope to realize this vision.
Our Mission. PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.
Who is PFLAG for? You might be a parent struggling to accept your gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender child. You might be gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or questioning individual and wonder how, or even if, you can tell your family and friends or wanting to find other people who are like you. Wherever you are in your journey, Native PFLAG is here to support you.
One of the main goals of Native PFLAG is to keep families together and foster the traditional teachings of being LGBT. To facilitate this goal, we provide a safe place for ALL members of the family to share their feelings and experiences with others who have been down the same road.
